After a goalless first half, where Milan controlled the play but created few clear chances, coach Paulo Fonseca brought the German striker on in the 65th minute for Tammy Abraham. Only a few minutes later, Füllkrug justified his substitution: in the 72nd minute, he headed in a pass from Christian Pulisic to take the lead.
The visitors from Lecce tried to force an equalizer in the final phase but failed against Milan's solid defence. For Niclas Füllkrug, this goal was a special relief after he had made headlines in recent days due to a burglary at his private home. With this win, AC Milan strengthens its position in the top group of the table, while Lecce remains in the lower midfield.
