On Saturday morning, there was an incident in the S-Bahn train traffic near the transport hub 'Wien-Mitte'. A Schnellbahn train belonging to 'ÖBB' got stuck in the tunnel because of a technical problem. As a result, about 150 passengers had to leave the 'Garnitur' (train set).
According to a spokesperson for 'ÖBB', the train driver had already been shown an error message before. After he checked the situation at 'Praterstern' and thought the problem was fixed, he continued the journey. However, the error message appeared again after a short distance, which caused the train to stop.
The evacuation of the passengers happened with help from the 'Berufsfeuerwehr Wien' (Vienna Professional Fire Brigade). The people were safely guided out of the tunnel back to the nearby station. The operation started around 8:40 AM and was successfully finished after only about 15 minutes. Major disruptions on the S-Bahn 'Stammstrecke' (main line) were avoided because the affected area has enough alternative tracks.
