An important election took place in Rhineland-Palatinate today. People voted for a new state parliament. Early forecasts show one thing: The CDU is the strongest party. They get about 32 percent of the votes. This is a big success for the candidate Christian Baldauf.
The SPD loses many voters. This party has governed the state for over 30 years. Now they only reach about 26 percent. Alexander Schweitzer leads the SPD in Rhineland-Palatinate. He seems disappointed after the first election forecast.
The AfD gets a very high result. Forecasts say they get around 18 percent. This is their best result in a western state. The Greens and the FDP must worry about entering the state parliament. Many people went to vote.
