Austria wants lower electricity prices in Europe. State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner announces an effort for this. The goal is fair prices for energy. There is a problem now with how prices are set.
The most expensive power plant often sets the price for all electricity. People call this Merit Order. If gas power plants are expensive, green power also becomes expensive. This is because of the costs for CO2 certificates. These costs make power from gas and coal more costly.
Zehetner wants to change this system. Green power from wind and sun should become cheaper. This should help the industry in Europe. People should also pay less for electricity. Austria works with other countries in the EU for this.
