A large humpback whale is stuck in the Baltic Sea. The animal rests on a sand bank near Timmendorfer Strand. Experts try to save the whale since Monday. All attempts failed until now.
Now large diggers help with the rescue. Two diggers dig a deep channel in the sea floor. The channel is 50 meters long and 6 meters wide. The whale can swim into deeper water using this path. The whale does not need to turn around for this.
Work with the diggers is hard. The drivers must be very careful. They work very close to the animal's head. On Thursday evening the whale moved a small bit. This gives the helpers new hope.
