The EU Parliament voted on March 26, 2026. They voted for a trade contract with the USA. This contract makes trade easier. The EU wants to lower the fees on goods from the USA. This is mainly for products from the making sector. Some food items will also cost less in fees.
The USA promises something important in return. They will limit the fees for goods from Europe. These fees must not be higher than 15 percent. This is good for companies from Europe. Before, there were often fights about high fees. The US President Donald Trump often threatened with new fees.
The EU sets clear rules. The contract is only valid if the USA follows the rules. If the USA raises the fees later, the EU stops the contract right away. Experts call this a safety clause. The Parliament wants to protect the economy in Europe this way. Now, the governments of the EU countries must still agree.
