Fewer people arrive in Germany. In the year 2025, 35,000 people sought protection so far. That is much less than in the year before. Then there were almost 57,000 people. The number of requests for protection has dropped.
The national government sees this as a success. It made checks at the borders stronger. There are also new rules for refugees in Europe. These rules are called GEAS. They should manage the movement of people better.
At the same time, there is sad news from Italy. A small boat sank near the island Lampedusa. The coast guard could save 44 people. But a small child is still missing. Rescuers search for the child with ships and airplanes.
The boat started in the country Tunisia. It was built from metal. Such boats are often very dangerous. Many people try to cross the Mediterranean Sea this way. Often this leads to serious accidents on the water.
