The German women's national team has successfully started the qualification period for the 2027 World Cup. In the first competitive match of the year, the DFB selection defeated the team from Slovenia 5-0 on Tuesday evening in Dresden. In front of around 13,000 spectators at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion, the team of national coach Christian Wück dominated the game from the start.
The home team set the course for victory in the first half. Klara Bühl opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a cross from Giulia Gwinn. Shortly after, Lea Schüller headed in to make it 2-0 (24th minute). Before halftime, Sjoeke Nüsken scored the third goal (41st minute), which effectively decided the match early. Slovenia played defensively and barely managed any significant counter-attacks.
After the break, Germany continued to control the game confidently. Substitute Linda Dallmann increased the lead to 4-0 in the 65th minute. Lea Schüller, scoring her second goal of the evening in the 83rd minute, scored the final goal in the one-sided match. National coach Wück was satisfied with his team's efficiency and joy in playing after the final whistle, as they took over the top spot in their qualification group. The next opponent in the qualification is the selection from Montenegro.
