The big Italian bank Uni-Credit wants to buy Commerz-Bank. Uni-Credit made an official offer on Monday. The bank offers 19 Euro for each share of Commerz-Bank. This is a high price. In total, Commerz-Bank is worth about 21 billion Euro this way.
Uni-Credit wants to become a very large bank in Europe. It already owns Hypo-Vereins-Bank in Germany. Buying Commerz-Bank would make Uni-Credit much stronger. The boss of Uni-Credit is Andrea Orcel. He believes the plan will succeed.
