In Hungary there is a scandal about gravel. The gravel comes from stone quarries in Burgen-Land. Experts found a lot of asbestos in it. Asbestos is a dangerous material. It can cause cancer.
The city Szombathely calls for help. There is a long road with bad gravel. Workers spray the road with water. The water keeps the dangerous dust on the ground.
Other cities also used this gravel. These cities are Sopron and Kőszeg. About 30 places are affected. People bought the gravel for houses and roads. They thought the stones were safe.
Tests show many asbestos fibers in the air. The values are much higher than allowed. Greenpeace criticizes the government in Burgen-Land. The stone quarry owners say: Our stones are okay.
The government of Hungary checks the problem now. It wants to stop the danger. It wants to find the people at fault. 4 companies from Burgen-Land are now banned.
