In April 2026 many companies went bankrupt in Germany. Exactly 1776 companies filed for insolvency. This is the highest number in 20 years. Hotels and restaurants are in big trouble. Companies for houses have big problems too. In Berlin and Bayern there are many bankruptcies.
Experts expect no quick improvement. They expect high numbers until July. In West Europe many companies go bankrupt too. In 2025 almost 200000 companies closed. This is a new record. In Switzerland numbers grow the most. Austria is in the middle.
There are many reasons for the bankruptcies. Energy costs are very high. There is too much paperwork in companies. Wars hurt the economy. Many people save money. They buy less. This hurts shops and services.
