Austria will have fewer small courts soon. Anna Sporrer is the minister for law. She wants to save money. She plans to close 16 district courts. In Carinthia, 3 locations will close. These are Eisenkappel, Ferlach and Hermagor. In Styria, 4 locations will close. There are plans in Tyrol and other regions too.
The government wants to save 3 million euros every year. Larger courts will do the work. This makes the work better and faster. All workers keep their jobs. They just work at a new place. There is a special rule in Carinthia. People often speak German and Slovenian there.
A new center for these languages starts in Klagenfurt. The right to use Slovenian grows. Many local politicians are angry. They say: The government did not talk to us. They fear for the rural areas. There is no final list of closures yet.
