Australia is the first country with a ban. Children under 16 years cannot use social media. A new study shows bad news. The ban has almost no effect. Children still use Instagram and TikTok. Many children make fake accounts. Or they use accounts from older people.
Experts asked 400 young people for the study. For 12-year-olds almost nothing changes. Only for 14-year-olds the use drops a little bit. In Germany people also talk about bans. Experts do not want strict rules here. They suggest a minimum age of 13 years.
In Great Britain there are new laws too. Students complain about these laws. The student Ellie Ball visits a hybrid school. She learns a lot on the computer at home. She only goes to school once a week. Ellie says: Screens are not bad. It depends on how you use them. Without the internet she cannot learn well.
