In Austria, more children are born via C-section. Almost every 3rd baby is born this way. This is 32.8 percent of all births. 30 years ago the rate was smaller. It was only 12.4 percent.
A reason is the age of the women. Mothers are older now than in the past. They are on average almost 32 years old. Older women often need a surgery. Women over 35 years often need a C-section.
Most babies are born in a hospital. Very few children are born at home. In the province of Steiermark there are many C-sections. In Salzburg and Upper Austria there are the fewest. Most babies are born on time.
