There is a new trend in the European Union. Many people buy electric cars now. In May, 1 of 5 new cars was an electric car. The group ACEA from Brussels says this. People registered over 200.000 new electric cars in May. This is more than last year. Many countries pay money to help buyers. Expensive petrol also helps this trend.
Most people still buy hybrid cars. These cars have 2 motors. One motor uses electricity. The other motor uses petrol. Their market share is almost 38 percent. People buy fewer cars with only petrol or diesel. Sales went up in Germany and Italy. Sales went down in France and Belgium.
Companies from China are very successful. Companies like BYD sell many more cars now. BYD has a bigger market share than Tesla from the USA. Big companies from Europe have a hard time. Volkswagen from Germany is still number 1. But its market share is a bit lower. Renault and Toyota also lost some market share.
