Lidia Jorge gets an important prize. It is the State Prize for European Literature. The author comes from Portugal. She is 79 years old. The prize is 25,000 Euro worth. The culture ministry says this today.

She also writes about poverty and racism. Racism means people are treated badly because of their skin color. Famous books of her are 'Mercy' and 'The Day of Wonders'. Many texts are in many languages.
