Researchers from Linz made a new map. The name of the map is Municipalytics. It shows computer services in European towns. Many towns use technology from the USA. Austria has a high dependence on these firms.
Many towns use US firms for e-mail. In Austria, this is 87 percent. Often, the e-mails go to the cloud. A cloud is a storage place on the internet. In Germany, the situation is different. 80 percent of towns use local firms there.
Websites look better. In Austria, 60 percent of websites stay in Europe. Experts say: Dependence is bad. Europe needs its own solutions for data. Then cities keep control over their information.
