Magnus Brunner is an EU commissioner. He works on migration. He wants to end checks at internal borders. This is for countries like Austria and Germany. These countries belong to the Schengen area. He says: Open the borders now.
The EU protects its outside borders better now. A new law helps with this. It is the migration pact. Authorities check people at the outside border. Fewer people come in without permission. The number drops by 37 percent.
Some countries stop their checks. Austria and Slovenia do this. Also at the border to Luxembourg. Officers can check in the hinterland. This is not at the border line. They check inside the country.
Brunner is happy with the new rules. Most countries follow the rules now. The EU plans new agreements for deportations. A deal with Nigeria is coming soon. The EU can send people back to centers. These centers are outside the EU. Human rights must be safe there.
