Since July 1, the added value tax is lower. This applies to important food. The tax dropped from 10 percent to 4.9 percent. This includes eggs, milk, and bread. Also fruit and vegetables now cost less.
The national bank checked the prices. Experts looked at offers on the internet. Most supermarkets lowered the prices. They pass the benefit to the customers. The prices fell almost as much as the tax.
The savings for people are small. Every item costs only a few cents less. Food is only a small part of spending. Therefore, the inflation drops only a little bit. The national bank watches the prices in the future.
