On the island Koh Samui there is almost no water. It does not rain for a long time. This is a drought. The weather event El-Niño is also a reason for the dry time. The lakes on the island are almost empty.
There is a water pipe from the land. But this pipe does not bring enough water. The people need much more water. Therefore the authorities divide the water now. This is rationing.
In some parts there is no water at times. The people shall collect water. Many hotels buy own water. Big trucks bring the water to the hotels. This costs much money.
At the moment many tourists are on the island. It is the main season. About 500000 people are there. The pipes are too old for so many people. This is a weak infrastructure.
The government wants to help now. A plant for sea water gets a repair. This plant makes clean water from salt water. The water problem exists for many years.
