Today is an important day for many children. Students get report cards in many places. The holidays now start in many areas. These are Vorarlberg, Tirol, Salzburg and Ober-Osterreich. Also in Karnten and Steiermark the holidays begin.
About 670,000 students start their free time. The holidays last 9 weeks in total. In the east the holidays started one week ago. Now 1.2 million students in the country are free.
Many families go on holiday now. There is much traffic on the roads. The roads are full on Friday and Saturday. The motorways A1, A10 and A13 are very busy.
Not all children have free time all summer. More than 7,600 students in Steiermark go to summer school. They learn things from the old school year there. In Karnten many students had good grades. 62 percent of students had a top grade.
School starts again on September 7 in Vienna. In the west and south school starts September 14. Some places have own rules for the holidays.
