Nuclear deal between the USA and Saudi Arabia
Donald Trump has a new plan. He wants a deal with Saudi Arabia. The USA want to help the country with nuclear power. The deal shall last for 30 years.
US firms shall build plants in Saudi Arabia. Maybe the country may also enrich uranium itself. Uranium is needed for nuclear plants. But people can also build weapons from it.
Critics have big fear about this deal. They fear an arms race in the Middle East. This means: Many countries want their own nuclear bombs then. This could lead to wars.
Important rules for safety are missing in the treaty. Experts call this the gold standard. International inspectors may perhaps not check everything. This makes many politicians worry.
The US Congress checks the treaty now. There is much dispute about the plan. The crown prince of Saudi Arabia said something earlier. He wants nuclear weapons if Iran has them too.
