The USA and Canada have big fights about trade. The US president Donald Trump says bad things. He wants to start high taxes on January 1 2027. Cars and trucks from Canada will cost 50 percent more. This is true for car parts and for steel too.
Trump writes his thoughts often on the internet. He says Canada uses the USA. He thinks his land does not need trade with Canada. But Canada is a very good partner for the USA. Only Mexico sells more goods to the USA.
Both lands talk on the weekend. But they find no agreement. Because of this, new taxes are active since Saturday night. These taxes are for wood, honey and wine. They are for goods worth 20 billion dollar.
Mark Carney is the boss of the government in Canada. He finds the threats from Trump not fair. He says someone attacks Canada. So he wants to fight back. Canada wants taxes on US goods too from September 8. This is for milk and machines.
