A court in Hong Kong finds 2 activists guilty. Their names are Chow Hang-tung and Lee Cheuk-yan. They organize silent protests. These are Mahn-Wachen for victims from 1989.
At that time, protests happen in Peking on the Tiananmen-Platz. The Chinese army stops the protests with violence. Many people die. China wants no memory of this event.
The court says: The activists want to harm the state. This is called Subversion. They break the law. Since the year 2020, a strict Sicherheits-Gesetz exists in Hong Kong.
This law bans many protests. Both activists are former leaders of the Hong Kong alliance. This group organizes memorials for 30 years. In the year 2021, the group stops its work.
The activists are in prison since the year 2021. The exact punishment is not clear now. They can get up to 10 years in prison. Human rights groups criticise the verdict very much.
