The grain harvest in Austria is small this year. It is very hot. It is very dry. Farmers harvest 2.5 million tons of grain without corn. This is 19 percent less than last year.
The amount is under the average of 5 years. But we have enough food. There is enough flour for bread and baked goods. The quality of the grain is very high.
Günter Griesmayr is the boss of the agricultural market in Austria. He tells the numbers today. Farmers harvest very little soft wheat. Farmers plant less land.
Experts expect a bad corn harvest too. The dryness hurts many plants. This is true for potatoes and sugar beets too. Farmers lose money with wheat now.
