South Korea tests a new path for ships to Europe. The ship has the name Pan-Star Acro. The ship starts in the city Busan. It drives through the Arctic in the north. This is the North-East-Passage. The ship brings cars and chemical goods to Europe.
The drive through the ice is much shorter. The trip takes 45 days. This is faster than the old path over the Suez-Canal. South Korea wants to know answers. How much gas does the ship need? How high are the costs?
Before, too much ice is in the north. Because of the climate-change, the ice melts now. Now ships can drive there more often. Russia and China use this path already. Experts for the environment have big worries.
The ship traffic can hurt nature in the north. The Arctic is a very sensitive place for animals and plants. Some firms do not want to drive through the Arctic therefore.
