The training for teachers in Austria changes. This is true for the high school. These are schools like the middle school or the high school. Until now, the study was often too long. Many people also found it too dry. Now the study becomes 1 year shorter.
From the study year 2026/27, the training takes 5 years. Out of this, 3 years are for the bachelor. After that follow 2 years for the master. The study is now as long as for grade school teachers. The students shall work earlier in practice. For this, there are fewer hours in the science of education.
There are also new important topics in the study. These include German as a second language and inclusion. Inclusion means: All children learn together. Also the use of computers and AI is important. AI stands for artificial intelligence. Students shall also learn how to deal with diversity in class. The master shall be better possible next to work.
