Martha Schultz leads the business chamber. She wants shorter summer breaks in Austria. They last 9 weeks now. Schultz wants only 6 weeks.
She says: Many mothers face child care problems. Long breaks cause trouble for working parents. Women often do most care work at home.
Education minister Christoph Wiederkehr says no to this plan. He says: Children need much break time. They must get new power for school.
Wiederkehr wants better help offers. He names the summer school as one example. Holiday camps also help parents in all of Austria.
