The UN looks for a new boss. The current boss is Antonio Guterres. His term ends on December 31. Rebeca Grynspan wants to be his successor. She comes from Costa Rica.
The security council holds a test vote. 10 members vote for Grynspan. 3 members vote against her. This is a very good result. Grynspan would be the first woman at the top of the UN.
Grynspan has much experience. She works for the world organization for a long time. Earlier she is vice president in Costa Rica. She helps with grain trade in the Ukraine war.
The security council has 15 members. A candidate needs at least 9 votes. Important countries like the USA or Russia have a veto right. With a veto they can reject a candidate.
