The EU group has a new plan. Rules for the gas methane come later. Firms for oil, gas and coal have more time. They must follow the rules from the start of 2028. This is 1 year later than planned.
There is a crisis for energy prices. The delay saves money. The safe supply with energy is also important. Methane is a very bad greenhouse gas. It warms the earth more than CO2.
Methane comes from farms for example. It also escapes during the work for oil and gas. The new rules demand a close check of exhaust. This applies also to suppliers from other lands. The EU parliament must still agree to the plan.
