Formula 1 comes back to Africa. From the year 2030, races take place in Rwanda. A contract for 10 years is signed now. The last race in Africa was in the year 1993.
The new race track is built in Bugesera. This is near the city Kigali. Alexander Wurz from Austria designs the track. It is about 6 kilometers long. The track has many turns and hills.
President Paul Kagame is happy about the contract. He wants to make his country more famous. Also the race driver Lewis Hamilton likes the news. He wanted a race in Africa for a long time.
But people also criticize Rwanda. Human rights defenders say: The government treats some people badly. Critics of the government are often arrested. Formula 1 drives in the country anyway.
