In Austria, almost all people have health insurance. But many people have no shield. A new study shows this fact. Up to 57000 people are affected. This is 0,6 percent of all people.
There are many reasons for this problem. Some people have bad jobs. Others have deep mental crises. Students and returnees from abroad are also often affected. Often, people lack important facts about their rights.
Many affected people go to the doctor very late. They fear high costs. Or they feel shame about their life. Almost every fifth person waits longer than 1 year. This is very dangerous for health. Small issues turn into big diseases.
Special emergency clinics offer help. Examples are Amber-Med in Vienna or Marien-Ambulanz in Graz. Doctors work there for free. Experts now demand better rules for social aid. All children must have safe insurance.
