Brazil has a big election soon. People choose a new president on Sunday. The main rivals are Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro. Lula is 80 years old. He is the president now. He wants to win for the 4th time. He says: I protect democracy from bad politicians. His rival is the 45 year old Flávio Bolsonaro. He is the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro. Jair Bolsonaro is in prison.
There is much dispute about a TV show. The candidates should talk to each other in the show. But Lula does not want to come. A court gives strict rules for the show. The TV station Globo cancels the show. Many people scold the court now. They say: The court mixes too much into the vote. Flávio Bolsonaro even talks about censorship.
Other countries worry too. The USA closes offices for citizens. Australia closes its embassy too. They have fear for safety. The police in Brazil finds no proof for danger. Lula believes: Donald Trump from the USA wants to influence the vote. People vote on Sunday. If nobody gets more than half of the votes, a runoff vote happens on 25. October.
