In south Italy there are big protests. Truck drivers are angry about high prices for diesel. Also the toll fees are too expensive. They block important highways with their trucks. This leads to long traffic jams.
The blockades have bad consequences. In many supermarkets the shelves stay empty. Especially fresh fruit and vegetables are missing. At some gas stations there is no gas left. Even 2 airports have no fuel for airplanes.
The government wants to help the drivers now. Minister Matteo Salvini promises much money. Almost 500 million euro shall be paid out fast. He wants to stop the protests with that. In all of Italy the prices for life rise.
