Because of rising political tensions and military threats, international aviation authorities have issued wide-ranging warnings for civilian airlines. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recommended avoiding the airspace over Iran at all altitudes. The reason for this measure is potential military actions by the United States and a heightened state of alert by the Iranian air defense. Previously, the Iranian regime had already closed its airspace for several hours without giving a specific reason.
At the same time, the US aviation authority FAA published safety advisories for the airspace over Mexico and several Central American countries. The authority warned of military activities that could lead to significant disruptions of satellite-based navigation systems. This warning is valid for a period of 60 days. In the region, increased military movements have also been registered, which could affect the safety of civil air traffic. Major airlines like Lufthansa have already reacted and adjusted their flight routes accordingly to fly around the affected areas widely.
