On Sunday night, Ukraine was once again the target of extensive Russian air attacks. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at least two people were killed and dozens more were injured. Russia reportedly used more than 200 drones for the attacks, with the Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions being particularly affected.
In Kharkiv, a drone strike on an apartment building caused the death of a 20-year-old woman. In the Sumy region, several people, including a seven-year-old child, were injured during attacks using glide bombs. The attacks once again heavily targeted the energy infrastructure, which, combined with a current cold snap, led to power and heating outages. In Kyiv, due to the precarious supply situation, the closure of all schools until early February was announced.
President Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of further military support from Western allies. He stated that over the past week alone, more than 1,300 drones and about 1,050 glide bombs were used against Ukrainian targets. The current escalation happens at the same time as diplomatic efforts in the USA, where Ukrainian negotiators are discussing a possible end to the almost four-year conflict.
