Military conflicts in Syria intensified greatly on Sunday. Reports suggest that the Syrian army advanced further in the northwest of the country and announced the capture of the strategically important city of Deir Hafer, east of Aleppo. At the same time, there were heavy clashes between government troops and Kurdish units. In the course of this escalation, Kurdish fighters blew up two bridges over the Euphrates to slow down the army's advance toward their areas of control.
According to observers, the Kurdish forces are trying to defend their positions against the offensive by the central government. The situation in the region remains unclear because different groups are fighting for control over key positions in the north and east of the country. Meanwhile, a current analysis of the situation of Syrian refugees in Germany shows a clear trend: Despite the change in power in Damascus and the fall of Bashar al-Assad, many Syrians are increasingly seeking German citizenship. Returning home does not seem to be a preferred option for the majority of the community living in Germany at the moment, as the security situation and the political future of Syria are still considered unstable.
