As part of his peace plan for the Gaza Strip, US President Donald Trump has named the members of the so-called 'Board of Peace'. This body, which Trump himself chairs, is intended to start the second phase of the peace process. This phase especially aims for the reconstruction and a temporary civilian administration of the area.
Among the most prominent members of the executive staff are former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Also appointed were US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and financial investor Marc Rowan. According to information from the White House, each member will take on a specific area of responsibility. These areas include economic stabilization, attracting investment, and regional diplomacy.
At the same time, the establishment of a technocratic Palestinian administration under the leadership of Ali Sha’ath was announced. This administration will handle the daily operational business in the Gaza Strip, while the Peace Council maintains strategic oversight. The committee's goal is also to ensure the demilitarization of the region and the destruction of tunnel systems, in cooperation with Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar. Critics, however, complain that the structure of the council is paternalistic, while the US government speaks of a necessary international partnership to stabilize the situation.
