The EU chemical agency ECHA asks for a ban on PFAS. These are man-made substances. People also call them forever chemicals. They do not break down in nature. They stay in the environment forever.
PFAS are in many things. For example, in frying pans or rain jackets. They push away water and fat. But these substances are dangerous. They can make people sick. They hurt the liver and the defense system. They can also cause cancer.
ECHA says: The old rules are not enough. A broad ban is needed. But there should be exceptions. Some areas still need these substances. This includes medicine or electronics. Often there is no other choice there.
The EU Commission must decide now. It makes a plan for a new law. The goal is clear: Less poison in our world. Protecting people and nature is important.
