In Vienna, the authorities succeeded in cracking down on the illegal practice of medical treatments. The Office for Combating Fraud, represented by the Financial Police, managed to detain a woman from a 'Drittstaat' (non-EU/EEA country) who allegedly performed cosmetic procedures without the necessary permits.
Investigators found the alleged doctor in the act while she was administering injections in the facial area to a patient. The operation started because of a targeted report. Reports suggest the woman had traveled specifically to Austria to offer these services on the black market.
At the scene, officers encountered several people, some of whom had already undergone treatments like 'Botox' injections. The substances used and the medical equipment were seized on site. Consequently, the authorities initiated proceedings on suspicion of 'Kurpfuscherei' (unqualified medical practice), undeclared work, and violations of the Medical Practitioners Act.
The City of Vienna and the 'Gruppe Sofortmaßnahmen' (Immediate Measures Group) are once again warning about the health risks of such unauthorized treatments. Since the person performing them did not have the required qualifications or authorization in Austria, there is a risk of serious medical complications.
