For the first time since the military conflicts between Iran, Israel, and the USA began last Saturday, a scheduled flight from Dubai landed at Vienna-Schwechat Airport on Thursday. An Airbus A380 from the airline Emirates arrived in Austria around noon. The airline announced that it would successively resume its flight schedule due to a partial reopening of the airspace. Nevertheless, tens of thousands of travelers remain stranded in the Gulf region, as many connections, including those of Austrian Airlines, are still suspended.
The tense situation also affected numerous public figures. The tennis professional Daniil Medvedev, who had recently won the tournament in Dubai, was temporarily stuck and described the situation as unusual. He reported having to wait to see when a departure would be possible again. Reality TV participant Elena Miras also reported on worrying days in Abu Dhabi. After her return to Zurich, she also discussed health problems that were intensified by the stress of the situation.
The family of investor Carsten Maschmeyer was also affected. His son and his wife were staying in Dubai with their young daughter during the attacks. Reports suggest the family initially fled by car to Oman to catch one of the scarce return flights from there. In this context, Maschmeyer criticized the drastically increased prices for flight tickets from the crisis region.
