The German government decided on a new plan on Wednesday. The plan is called Climate Protection Program 2026. Germany wants to release fewer harmful substances. The goal is: By the year 2030, 65 percent fewer gases should enter the air than in 1990. But this is not enough yet. There is something called a climate gap.
The new program has 67 single measures. For example, 2,000 new wind turbines should be built. Electric cars also continue to receive money from the state. Forests should be better protected. Experts say: These measures are not quite enough. Many million tons of savings are still missing.
There were protests in Berlin in the morning. Activists from the group Greenpeace climbed a crane. The crane stands right in front of the Chancellery. They hung a large poster there. It said: Freedom instead of fossil politics. Fossil politics means using oil, gas, and coal. The police secured the area. After a few hours, the activists left the crane willingly.
