Where does Mother's Day come from?
Anna Marie Jarvis from the USA invented Mother's Day. She wanted to honor her mother. In 1914 the day became an official holiday in the USA.
Germany has Mother's Day since 1923. Flower sellers made a lot of ads for it. In the NS-Time people used the day for politics. Today it is not a legal holiday.
Austria has the day since 1924. Marianne Heinisch made it famous there. People spend much money on gifts. The shops like that very much.
Gifts and questions
Many people give flowers. Roses and tulips are popular. People also give sweets or coupons. Children often make crafts for their moms. A nice message on a phone makes them happy.
Some people have long talks. There are lists with 33 questions for mother. You learn more about your mom. You learn about her time as a child.

The weather on Mother's Day is different everywhere. In the south and east of Germany the sun shines. It gets 27 degrees warm. In the west and north it can rain.
From Monday it gets much colder. Nature changes a lot. Grass grows fast and there is much pollen. The first mosquitoes are outside now.
