Greece has a problem with too many tourists. In 2025 almost 38 million people came. This is a new record. The islands Santorini and Mykonos are very full.
The people living there suffer from noise and traffic. There is often too little water for everyone. Rents for flats rise very strongly. The government starts new rules.
New hotels on full islands may have fewer beds. The limit is 100 beds per hotel. Big new buildings need much space around them. This protects nature.
Nobody may build directly at the sea. A distance of 25 meters is a rule now. Only paths to the beach are allowed there. The new laws apply from the end of June.
