The British premier-minister Keir Starmer has big problems. His party Labour lost many votes in elections. In England the party lost over 1400 seats in local councils. Also in Wales the results were bad.
Now many of his own people want him to leave. More than 80 members of the Labour party oppose him. Also important ministers tell him to go. This includes the foreign-minister and the home-minister. They want a fixed time plan for his departure.
Four important helpers of ministers already quit. They want to show: Starmer must go. Keir Starmer himself is still a fighter. He gave an important speech on Monday. He said: I will convince the doubters.
Starmer wants no chaos in the government. He warns against constant changes of leaders. That hurt the country in the past. He wants to nationalize important firms like British Steel. This means: The state owns the firm. He also wants to improve work with the EU.
There are ideas for new leaders. Names are for example Wes Streeting or Andy Burnham. Burnham is the current mayor of Manchester. The situation for Starmer remains very difficult. On Tuesday he talks with his ministers about the future.
