Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stops a big plan. The German navy gets no new F126 ships. These ships are called Fregatten. This was the biggest project for the navy. There were many problems. The delivery took too long. The costs grew more and more. Experts say the project cost 18 billion Euro.
The state already paid much money. It is 2 billion and 400 million Euro. This money is gone. The government buys other ships now. These ships are called Meko-200. They come from the company TKMS. The navy gets 8 of these ships. The new ships are smaller than the Fregatten. They are 120 meters long.
The new ships cost 11 billion and 600 million Euro. They hunt submarines well. Submarines are ships under the water. The navy likes this decision. It saves money on repairs. The stock market changed a lot. TKMS Aktien got more value. The Aktien of the company Rheinmetall lost much value.
