Prisons in Austria are very full. The justice minister Anna Sporrer wants to release 500 prisoners earlier. These people behave well in prison. They can go out during the day. Dangerous criminals must stay in prison. This applies to people with violent crimes or terror suspicion.
The party OVP is against this plan. Ernst Göd from the OVP warns against fast decisions. He says criminals must not have an advantage because the system is full. He thinks about smugglers and criminal asylum seekers. A smuggler brings people secretly over a border for money. Göd finds an early release wrong.
The OVP wants more safety for the people. The minister must explain her plans better. She also wants that foreign criminals serve their punishment in their home country. This makes prisons in Austria empty. There is more information next week.
