Austria has fewer new asylum requests. People made 771 requests in May. This is 50 percent less than last year. The number falls the whole year.
Many requests are for small children. The children are 0 to 7 years old. This is almost every second request. These children were born in Austria. Their parents live here as refugees.
Almost half of all people are children or teens. Only a few people over 65 ask for asylum. More than half are men.
Most people come from Syria or Afghanistan. People from Afghanistan often get protection. People from Syria get it rarely. The situation for sleeping places is calm now.
