Fewer people ask for protection in Austria. The number of applications drops quickly. In May there were 771 new applications. That is half as many as last year.
Many applications come for small children. Children under 7 are now the largest group. Many of these children were born in Austria. Their parents live here as refugees already.
Almost half of all applicants are not adults. Only very few people over 65 apply. There are more men than women among the applicants. In the past the difference was larger.
Most people come from Syria or Afghanistan. People from Afghanistan often get the right to stay. People from Syria get this less often. They often get a different kind of protection.
The FPÖ criticizes the government. They think the measures do not work well. About 47.100 people live in state housing now. Many of these people come from the Ukraine.
