Austria has a plan for a new authority. The name is Federal State Attorney Office. The government agrees on this now. This includes the parties OVP, SPO and NEOS. Currently the justice minister gives orders to state attorneys. These orders are called instructions. This will now change.
The new authority has 3 people. These 3 people lead the office together. They stay for 6 years. A second term is not possible. Every 2 years the leader changes. The people must know criminal law well. They are judges or state attorneys with 10 years experience.
The parliament elects the leaders. A group of experts makes suggestions. The National Council can reject suggestions. The government wants to spend 9 million Euro. There will be 40 jobs. The authority works without help from politics. This reduces arguments about political influence.
The government needs many votes for the law. This is called a two-thirds majority. Another party must agree. This could be the Greens. The FPO says no to the plan. Alma Zadic from the Greens checks the plan. She wants no influence from politics.
